My favourite film. This is a really good thriller Weston. Bad Day at Black Rock. This is an absolutely first class production in every way. Cult Classic. Spencer Tracy as a one armed WW II veteran up against a town with something to hide. Not as good as advertised. I saw this movie years ago and remembered it had a few really good scenes. Old School Classic. This movie is an old school classic. I think something kinda bad happened here. A nattily dressed one-armed man arrives in a small southwestern town and brings to light a dark, dirty secret the townspeople thought they had buried years ago. A classic movie with an all-star cast. Bad Day at Black Rock is a quick-paced, tension-filled movie with a great cast that will have you riveted to your seat for its 81-minute running time. Tracy at his best. Tracy portrays a one-armed man who arrived in a small town onlyto discover it is hiding things. Vote for the DVD version! Please cast your vote to make Bad Day at Black Rock become a DVD! Where is McReedy when we really need him? This is a movie which doesn't "date" because it deals with archetypal (representing oft-repeated types) characters and situations which resonate in our consciousnesses for all time.
A Superior Precursor to Bronson Movies. I first viewed this movie when I was 12 years old and it still holds up, after repeated viewings. Tracy makes a spectacular return to films after the war. Many actors served honorably in the armed forces during WW2, with Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy all rising to high rank. Short, yet sure and packs a punch! "Bad Day At Black ROck" may be a short film dealing with what happens in the day of a smalltown America, but still it packs a mighty punch; And it shows that you are only as sick as your secrets; Spencer Tracy comes to the small town(if u wish to call it that)of Black Rock to give a man a medal that his son won posthomously in WW2,and to pay a debt. Bad Day at Black Rock. One of the best suspense films ever, tension builds from very first scene. A Tight, Well-Constructed Thriller About Justice. It's very satisfying to see a relatively small movie that was made efficiently by pros become so widely liked and respected. Bad Movie at Black Rock. I was obviously expecting a lot more from this movie than it supplied. Ol' 55. I must agree with Steven Hellerstedt regarding Dana Polan's commentary on the DVD, although I don't believe he goes quite far enough. Magnificent movie, Tracy is brilliant. Spencer Tracy delivers yet another outstanding performance in this under-rated sleeper. Visually breathtaking. I can certainly understand the frustration of the reviewers below who had access only to a VHS fullscreen version. 1950s paranoia just misses the mark. an interesting take on small-town paranoia, as an entire community is subsumed by the attempt to cover up an old murder in the mistaken belief that they are about to be found out.
Tracy terrific, no fluff, his best role, film taut. Tracy completely believable as a handicapped man who is no match for his enemies and yet wins. Old classic still packs a punch. A mysterious, one-armed stranger arrives in the sleepy and uneventful looking little town of Black Rock. Dead Man, Haunting. I've tried to find a copy of Howard Breslin's short story to round out the sense of dissatisfaction I found with this film. THE BEST. The best film ever, Tracy is superb (as usual), and was there ever a better cast of baddies, wathced it numerous times and it gets better. BROKEBACK MADE FOR CINERAMA TURKEY SAVED BY TRACEY. only TRacey's face could save this turkey, and his display of one-armed karate against the bigger BOrgnine ruins even his abilities to salvage this train wreck. Finally Got the Movie! I've been trying for YEARS to get this film for my Dad, who has always said that it was one of his favorites. Stands the test of time... Spencer Tracy's performance is bombproof in this tale of bigotry and hatred. Fine faux western with a "film noir" touch. Spencer Tracy rides into town on the Southern Pacific. Stunning Western. This film is easily my favourite western. Bad day at Black Rock. What is everyone in this town trying to hide? There is something sinister going on at Black Rock, What is it with this little town?
Excellent! Spencer Tracy as the mysterious man in black. Sublime thriller. There's nothing quite like this movie. The First of the Karate Movies! Before 'Enter the Dragon' and 'Billy Jack' there was 'Bad Day at Black Rock'. A Masterpiece. Led by outstanding photography and one of Spencer Tracy's most powerful performances, BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK is jarringly good for a movie relatively few people outside film class have ever seen or even heard of. Has black rock ever had a good day? Black Rock. A great contemporary Western nominated for three Academy Awards... Set on one sunny morning in 1945, when the Santa Fe train pulls in and Spencer Tracy gets off. Tracy's Last MGM Film a Suspense Classic... "Bad Day at Black Rock", Spencer Tracy's final film at MGM (he would refuse to do "Tribute to a Bad Man", next, and was released), is a fitting climax to 20 years of unforgettable performances. Where's the DVD? I saw this film a couple of times as a kid and never forgot it. Unbelievably unbelievable. -- Spoilers ahead, but you may thank me for saving you the trouble of watching this movie. Big-time suspense in small-scale gem! The first American film to strike out at anti-Japanese racism, this excellent drama makes all of it's points stick; by--like "High Noon"--using the conventions of a thriller to punctuate issues of social conscience.
Modern-Day Western With a Superb Cast. Director John Sturges' "Bad Day at Black Rock" (1955) is the flip side of "High Noon," with one-armed Spencer Tracy defying a corrupt desert town and its ugly secret. Bursts. A superbly-crafted thriller, 'Black Rock' is the archetypal 'small town with something to hide' film. A great movie to relax and watch. I loved this movie and had waited for the dvd to finally come available. Tense and Intelligent... Exactly the way a film of this kind should be, simple but tense, easy to understand but still profound and unforgettable. Movie review. I saw Bad Day At Black Rock With Spencer Tracy years ago and always wanted to see it again! Bad day at black rock the verdict. Bad day at Black rock has been amongst my top five all time films for years and the 1950s & 60s seemed to produce iconic legacies. A great '50s classic. I would just like to say that this film, which in its original format offers close to 50% more image than what the 'modified to fit your screen' vhs tape does that I went out of my way to purchase a widescreen laserdisc version that MGM released in the mid '90s. A oft used premise done with little thought. The stranger come to town to look up an old buddy and finds that his buddy has disappeared has been done before but never with such cheap dialogue and yoyoing of suspense. Great Day at the Movies. "Bad Day" is one of those little pictures that stays with you. This bad day presents a very good film... At times it can feel a tad stiff, but overall, John Sturges intense look at racism during WW2 is quite engaging and often unsettling.
This is the first time the Streamliner has stopped here in four years. Well this movie surely was not what I expected. How hokey can you get???? Got this movie from the library, thinking it would be a good watch, even though I am not a fan of Spencer Tracy. Audio track for french language - discusting. The english audio track is good, but as far as the french track it's not worth a penny, noise on the track are so loud; My French friends we're so disappointed. Bad Day at Black Rock Movie Review. Directed by the late great John Sturges, Bad Day at Black Rock is a tense action, drama and Western blend. 3 stars out of 4. The Bottom Line:A modern western, Bad Day at Black Rock is a slight but enjoyable tale of a stranger coming into town and arousing suspicion; notable as one of the first (if not the first) film to mention the Japanese internment during WWII, BDaBR is a decent film that has been somewhat overrated but is still worth a look. An underrated film driven by stupendous acting. Although well directed by John Sturges, this film set immediately after the end of WW II is driven by great performances by a great, great cast. Stunning reproof of racial prejudice. Spencer Tracy is the one-armed man who gets off a train one day in Black Rock, a flea-bitten desert town, to deliver a medal of heroism to the Japanese father of the man who saved his life during the war, and died doing it.
